Japanese cave looking in and looking out. I had to bend over it was only 5 feet tall.
Pictures of the American landing at Asan Beach. We bombed this part of the island for a week before the first man landed.
Two man Japanese sub that ran aground in Asan Bay one week after the Americans took the island back.
The day after Pearl Harbor was attacked, Dec 7, 1941, the Japanese invaded Guam. The locals, Camorros were tortured for information about the Americans that they were loyal to for many decades before. You see, we occupied Guam since the Spanish is the early 1800s.
World War II raged, thousands of soldiers around the world fought & died. In August 1943, it took two weeks for American to retake Guam. Hundreds of soliders were wounded and died for a stratigic chunk of land close to Japan.
It's been enlightening to explore here and see how Japan defended it's territory from the Americans. Just a few short weeks ago I was photographing the hugh pill boxesand giant cannons that shot missels five miles into the Pacific to protect San Francisco Bay from the Japanese. We diffenatly had bigger more advanced wepons. The Japanese has muscle & wepons for awhile but we kicked butt.
I understand there's a dive sight where I can touch two sunken ships at the same time, they are nearly bow to bow at 60 feet down, one from WW I the other WW II. This kind of stuff is why I travel.
